SEVENTEEN and NewJeans Triumph at the 38th Golden Disk Awards

In a remarkable night of celebration, SEVENTEEN and NewJeans clinched the grand prizes at the 38th Golden Disk Awards, held on January 6 and broadcast live on JTBC2 and JTBC4.

SEVENTEEN's Impressive Win

SEVENTEEN ascended to the top spot with their tenth mini-album 'FML', released last year, which recorded staggering sales exceeding 6 million copies. The group not only bagged the Album of the Year award but also earned the Best Album and Digital Song awards, making them triple crown winners. Their sub-unit BSS (BooSeokSoon) added to the glory by securing another trophy, bringing their total to four.

NewJeans' Rapid Rise

Following their previous year's wins for Best New Artist and Main Award at the Golden Disk Awards, NewJeans achieved another milestone by winning the Digital Song of the Year award. This came just a year after their debut, powered by the popularity of their January release, 'Ditto'. Min Hee-jin, the producer behind NewJeans under the label Ador, was also honored with the Producer Award.

Other Notable Winners

In the album category, accolades were given to aespa, ENHYPEN, IVE, LE SSERAFIM, NCT Dream, Stray Kids, BTS Jungkook, Zero Base One, and Tomorrow X Together. In the digital song category, the winners included (G)I-DLE, IVE, LE SSERAFIM, NewJeans, STAYC, Park Jae-jung, BSS, SEVENTEEN, BTS Jungkook, and BLACKPINK's Jisoo.

Rookie awards were secured by Zero Base One and FIFTY FIFTY, while Stray Kids received the Global K-pop Artist award. Boy Next Door was recognized with the Next Generation Award.

The Fan-Favorite Awards

The Bugs Favorite Golden Disk Popular Award, determined by over 5.5 million votes, went to Lim Young-woong and Jisoo. The 'Fan's Choice with Mandiri' award in Indonesia was bestowed upon Tomorrow X Together, reflecting the group's immense popularity in the region.

The Selection Process

The winners of the 38th Golden Disk Awards were chosen through a meticulous process involving a panel of experts, including Golden Disk executive committee members, music journalists, music program PDs, pop music critics, and domestic distribution representatives. The evaluation considered expert opinions (40%) and combined them with Circle Chart music usage and album sales data (60%). The assessment period covered releases and sales from mid-November 2022 to early November 2023.

The 38th Golden Disk Awards not only celebrated the achievements of these artists but also showcased the vibrant and diverse landscape of the Korean music industry, highlighting its growing global influence.
